Amy intrigued him. He wanted to know more about her but stumbled over his rehearsed words before he even dared to voice them. The strange conflict that came with his attraction made him yearn for her mystery to endure whilst desperately needing to know her innermost secrets. He fell asleep a little while after her soft sobs subsided to peaceful breaths—after her clenching fingers relaxed.

Falling asleep was a stupid thing to do—reckless—the rats could have attacked, the murderer intent on severing heads, even the armoured hedgehog of his screwy imagination could have taken them out. He’d fallen asleep and left them exposed. The RV wouldn’t do. It was simply too small.

We need a mobile fort if we’re going to survive. That’s our next mission.

But it could wait. His interest focused on Amy, who was in the middle of her first tutorial, practising on a patch of tarmac a little in front of the RV. She performed a series of moves that he recognised to be a Yatuchi’s training kata. The sequence was along the lines of a Dai Ichi Ken, which he remembered because he, or rather Prince Rendar, had performed it a thousand times.

One thing about Speared Moon, it made you grind.

She would have to repeat that sequence a similar number of times before Yatuchi showed her the next. From what he gathered, the Path of the Lotus Warrior that Amy was following wouldn’t be the same as the one he once had. Shemeza had adapted it to account for the new mana that saturated the Earth’s air. It would be a sight to see. He knew the path’s capabilities in Speared Moon. If just one percent could translate to Earth, well, it would be something special.

He watched for a while, jealousy running through him, aching for the Way of the Lotus Warrior’s familiar discipline. He could have joined in with her, knew the steps, the flow, the lethal grace, but was unsure exactly where she was—whether she was practising a few yards in front of him as it seemed, or whether her body merely mirrored her avatar’s movements? He hadn’t yet trained, so he wasn’t sure how it worked.

Lando was a Bājun Monk and had his path. It was evident that he would have to grind to advance his healing and that he had a fighting discipline to further, too, but he had no clue quite what. Perhaps he could even reverse his healing techniques to deal damage to his foes.

First things first, he checked his Health.
